Another saturday has come and passed

So. I finally gave up and asked my teacher why he keeps saying that he "expected more" from me. I asked him what "more" is.

My teacher told me that my lines were very fine and my work for the first two projects - the shoe exercise and the Arcimboldo exercise - were great. That they weren't inhibited by manga style and very... me. That a lot of what makes my work 'me' was lost in my later works, when I shifted back into manga style. He doesn't see much flexibility in that style and thought I was wasted in it.

He also read into my work that I showed a lot of promise, held a lot of natural talent but in the end held myself back because I was scared of myself. So I do really good stuff - like my final self-portrait, give up at the finishing touches and make it all sound like a joke.

Can't deny it when it sounds so true. Can't also refuse the A he gave me for that work even though it frustrates me to have that grade when technically, it's not good at all. He said that after thinking about it, that self-portrait was the best way to sum me up. He also says that he got so annoyed when I kept praising Sam's works and kept waving mine off. Jason pitched in and said that he felt bad about his works whenever I praised it. Same goes with Ceri, too, because they keep comparing my works to theirs. It really frustrates me when I'm being sincere about how good they are and it just comes off as weird to them.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Realism sounds fun, but I don't know how to start drawing because I don't know how to start looking. I'll take up the painting class next semester. It's certainly different, but "natural talent" or not, I'm a newbie. I don't know how to look at it properly.

I don't think I'll be good at it either.

/tldr
ANYWAY. Went to watch Alice in Wonderland with my friends. Was pretty okay. Nice graphics, refreshing lightness, doesn't need a lot of braincells. Considering we ended up singing the Robot Unicorn song when we weren't talking about the movie/eating, it was the perfect movie for the group mood.

Cloudy with chance of meatballs is better, though. Need to learn the "Engaging... coffee break!" actions. lol.

ALSO, FINALLY GOT MY JLPT RESULTS IN. I PASSED. HUZZAH.

Thank you very much! Just level 4. They're changing the exams this year, so I was hoping to take this year's equivalent to level 3. ^^

Thanks. I'm working on it.
